Emma Knudsen, the label, was founded in February 2016. After 10 years in the fashion industry, and 3 years studying at London College of Fashion, the company began when Emma found herself applying to design job after design job- only to be continually told she did not have enough experience. Fuelled by frustration and passion, Emma founded the label which started out as a handmade, made-to-order line, sold through Etsy.
Since then, Emma Knudsen has grown their Etsy Shop offering and added a full e-commerce shop. The line has been in over 10 boutiques across Canada and Emma has recently undertaken collaborations with Etsy, Jillian Harris and Monika Hibbs.
Emma Knudsen is a collection of timeless essentials that are responsibly Designed and Made in Canada. The brand believes in supporting other local, Canadian entrepreneurs to ensure all of the products are produced as ethically and responsibly as possible.
Where is Emma Knudsen clothing made?
All of our clothing is designed by Emma and produced in Vancouver, BC by a small family-run factory.
How can you ensure the factory is ethically run?
We visit our factory every 2 months (at least) and are in constant contact with the factory owners. Their team is small (but mighty!) and their working conditions are very good. You can read more about Ida (their head seamstress) and the factory on our Instagram.
What steps is Emma Knudsen taking to be more sustainable and environmentally friendly?
It is definitely a process but we are making a few key changes. On the packing/shipping side, we have cut out all individual plastic garment bags and have recently switched to eco-friendly mailers which are 100% compostable (they will completely disappear in your compost within 6 months) and are cutting out all other plastics where possible. In regards to our fabrics, we are moving towards majority of our styles being in cotton, linens and other sustainable fabrics. Additionally, our factory and production team work hard to salvage as much fabric as possible to avoid and scrap fabrics going into the landfill. In our home studio, any scrap fabrics we have are donated so that they can be put to use, instead of thrown out.
Will Emma Knudsen expand into more retailers?
While we are always open to chatting to new retailers, we are currently not planning on expanding our wholesale program. However, that could change in the future, so feel free to reach out if you are a retailer that wants to carry the brand!
I placed an order, what is the turnaround time?
Once an order is placed, please allow for 1-3 Business days for it to be processed, packed and shipped out. Once shipped, you will receive your shipping confirmation. Your shipping time depends on the shipping option you choose at checkout. Most Canadian orders should be received within 1-7 business days and about 7-10 business days for US orders. For more info on shipping, returns and exchanges please refer to Return Policy Page at the bottom of the shop.
I placed an order on Preorder or Restock, when will I get it?
All pieces that are preorder, will have their estimated ship date listed in the item description, and on the drop-down menu beside the size options. Please assume that these items will not ship before then. While we move as quickly as we can to get these items out to you, we cannot speed up the production process. Additionally in some instances custom fabric has to be made which adds to the delivery time. If something is sold out and has no restock date listed next to its size, that means there is no current restock planned for that item.
